The Landing
The Landing: What’s next since we stopped receiving Asylum Seekers?
With the opening of a city shelter, our ministry has changed. We are still happy to receive donations, and are working with partners to continue to care for migrants and asylum seekers. Here's how you can help St Michael's continue to work with this vulnerable population in our community:
-
Men's Clothing: The City shelter needs men's clothing, specifically sneakers or casual/comfortable Men's Shoes Sizes 8-10.5. Drop them off in the LANDING bin in the church office.
-
Bus fare: Donations made to "immigration" will be used to help migrants on their way, at the request of partner organizations, such as Catholic Charities. Many people come to their door, but they do not have funding for asylum seekers.
-
Volunteer with FaithWorks: FaithWorks supports families in many ways - Food, furniture, legal coordination, bikes, ESL and social opportunities, for example. Volunteer opportunities abound and we could find a time and place for you! Contact Jane McGuire if you have availability for FaithWorks. 505 220 5667 jmcguire@unm.edu.
The Landing continues to regularly receive guests, especially parishioners from Good Shepherd Mission in Navajo land coming to Albuquerque for conferences or medical visits. Recently they received Navajo going to the Episcopal General Convention in Louisville! Annette O'Connor and Rita Brockhoff coordinate that ministry. Reach out to the parish office, if you would like to be involved.
