On All Saints Day: The saints have a way of reminding us that our moment is just that, our moment. There have been moments like this before. There have been moments when hate has held sway over a large portion of the population. There have been times when violence and threats of violence were all around. The saints helped us survive. The saints helped chart the way through. #episcopal #progressiveclergy #all saints

Don't spend all of Tuesday scrolling or watching the news. Spend some time in prayer. The Contemplatives at St. Michael's will host a 12 hour prayer vigil in the church while the polls are open: 7am-7pm. You are welcome to spend some time away from screens, some time in stillness. On Wednesday November 6, we will also hold a Eucharist at 12:30pm. All are welcome.

This past weekend’s trunk or treat was a big hit. Thanks to all who celebrated, brought candy, decorated, and especially to Megan Sandoval, our lead organizer.

This week, we begin filling the Ofrenda. You are invited to bring photos of your loved ones who have died to join the collection of saints and souls. This time of year we remember that Christians do not believe death has the final word. We gather with those who have gone before us in faith each time we pray. The Ofrenda will keep growing until the Feast of All Saints on November 3. Join us as we remember and celebrate the lives of those who went before us.

On Indigenous People's Day, we celebrate our partnership with the The Episcopal Church in Navajoland which serves the Navajo Nation and its surrounding communities.. This summer the General Convention of the Episcopal Church voted to give Diocesan status to this vibrant community of faith. Churches in Navajoland incorporate traditional Navajo values and customs into its worship.

A significant partnership has existed between the Episcopal Church in Navajoland and St. Michael and All Angels in Albuquerque for decades. At times our congregation has been a place of discernment or celebration for Navajo leaders. We also hold an annual gift drive for children on the reservation. Over the years, through cultural exchanges, we have worked together to strengthen ties and foster understanding.

A blessed Indigenous People's Day to our siblings in Navajoland. May you continue to walk in beauty.

Today is National Coming Out Day. Observed on October 11 each year, the day holds significant cultural and historical importance in the LGBTQ+ community. Established in 1988, this day commemorates the anniversary of the 1987 March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights, where hundreds of thousands gathered in the Capitol city to advocate for LGBTQ+ freedom.

For LGBTQ+ people, coming out is a deeply personal decision, often filled with both fear and hope. Naming your truth can be deeply spiritual. National Coming Out Day encourages those who identify as LGBTQ+ to share their identities, and asks supporting allies to stand in solidarity. This act of openness can inspire others to embrace their true selves and contribute to a more accepting society.

National Coming Out Day also highlights the importance of allyship. Allies play a crucial role in creating safe spaces for LGBTQ+ individuals, fostering an environment where everyone can express their true selves without fear of retribution or discrimination. The support of allies can be transformative, helping to normalize LGBTQ+ identities and championing equality.

At St. Michael’s, we have a long history of embracing people across the spectra of gender and sexual diversity. We do so not in spite of our faith, but because of it. We believe God made each of us in God’s image. The more we can embrace diversity the more fully we can see the beauty of God.

The Newcomers Class meets on Wednesdays at 6:30pm in the Parish Hall. Today, October 9, there will be an "Instructed Eucharist," a chance to talk through our service of worship and what happens to the bread, wine, and the gathered community when we remember Jesus' last supper and call down the Holy Spirit.

If you've ever wanted to stop the priest to ask questions during a service, today is your chance. You're welcome to join us as we talk through our worship, the sacrament, and what it means to call bread and wine holy.

Invite your pet-loving friends to our St. Francis Day Celebration! Bring your animals (or stuffed animals!) to the 11:15am service to receive a special blessing. There will be a gathering on the patio following the shortened service. (Starting about noon). If you want to come to an earlier service, and bring an animal back at noon, pets will be blessed then too. All are welcome!

[All animals should be in appropriate leashes/carriers and safe for other humans and animals. If your animal is not easily transported, you are welcome to bring a photo].
